I believe you're discounting the gravity of those 'some businesses shutting down' and the downstream effects of people losing their jobs, and being cut off from their support systems.
It's not just about the first oder of consequence, but the second, third, forth and subsequent orders of consequence. The downstream effects on not only the economy but people's mental and physical health might not be as easily quantifiable as case numbers, but that doesn't make it any less important.
As for your comparison, it's an unfair one, and a great tactic to deploy to muster favour with people who don't think critically, so well done.
